By ANAS KHAN 9 Min Read

Samsung S24 Ultra review: Samsung has had a busy year. The Galaxy S23 series was released at the start of 2023. And we received the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 this summer, two of the best folding phones of the year. However, it is never too early to speculate on the company’s next smartphone portfolio. If Samsung follows its previous calendar plan, the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra should be launched in early 2024. What can we expect from these phones regarding features, design, price, and so on? Let’s look at what we know (so far) about the Samsung Galaxy S24.

Samsung S24 release date

There is no formal announcement date for Samsung’s new Galaxy smartphones. However, history implies that the next Galaxy S24 devices will be unveiled in January or February 2024. On February 1, 2023, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S23 series, with a February 17 release date. A year ago, on February 9, the Galaxy S22 series was announced, with a February 25 release date. On January 14, 2021, the Galaxy S21 series was unveiled, with a January 29 release date.

According to The Elec, Samsung may unveil the Galaxy S24 series on January 17, 2024, at an Unpacked event in San Jose, California. This would not be the first time Samsung released its new Galaxy S series in January, but it would be the first time in three years.

Samsung S24 design

A few rumors in recent months have hinted that the S24 series’ design may undergo some alterations. Smartprix (in cooperation with @OnLeaks) posted alleged renders of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra in September. GizNext also sent us renders of the Galaxy S24 Plus in early October.

If the renders are right, the screens will be flat this time, with no curving edges like in prior generations. Because curved glass is no longer available, expect ever-slimmer bezels, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra likely having the slimmest bezels for a Samsung smartphone to date. Aside from that, the S24 series may resemble the S23 series. The S24 Ultra, like the S23 Ultra, is likely to have flat metallic side rails with rounded corners, according to Smartprix.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra, like the iPhone 15 Pro series, may sport a titanium frame for the first time. This would likely reduce the weight of the Galaxy S24 Ultra significantly, possibly by as much as 10%.

However, it should be noted that the designs for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are expected to be very similar to the existing versions (via @Tech_Reve)

Samsung S24 specs

A couple of additional critical specifications for next year’s phones have emerged. When discussing specs and rumors, it’s always crucial to remember that there may be some deviation from the real specs, especially so close to its release. However, the precise specifications should become available as we draw closer to the big presentation.

Ice Universe posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 6.8-inch WQHD display with a 1440p resolution. Instead of the S23 Ultra’s peak brightness of 1,750 nits, the S24 Ultra could reach 2,500 nits.

According to Ice Universe, the S24 Plus will have a 6.7-inch WQHD display for the first time. The S24 is expected to have a 6.2-inch FHD display. The same leaker said in August, “Yes,” the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus would use LTPO panels. These screens are larger than the 6.1-inch S23 and 6.6-inch S23 Plus.

One of the most surprising aspects of the S23 series is that none of the models employ Samsung’s Exynos chipsets. Instead, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU was employed across the board. Samsung may return to form with the S24 series, using Exynos chipsets alongside the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU.

According to Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon (via The Elec), the processor used for both the S24 and S24 Plus variants will differ by area. The S24 Ultra, on the other hand, will employ a Qualcomm chip wherever the model is sold.

Samsung S24 battery

Generally, but not always, the larger the battery of a smartphone, the longer its battery life. If this trend continues into 2024, all three Galaxy S24 models may experience enhancements.

The Galaxy S24 will use a 4,000 mAh battery, similar to the one used on the Galaxy S21, according to Dutch news outlet Galaxy Club. The batteries on the Galaxy S22 and S23 are 3,700 mAh and 3,900 mAh, respectively.

The S24 Plus has a 4,900 mAh battery, which compares favorably to the S23 Plus’ 4,700 mAh cell. Meanwhile, rumors say that the S24 Ultra will retain its current capacity of 5,000 mAh.

Samsung S24 cameras

So far, all camera rumors have revolved around the S24 Ultra. Like the previous model, this phone should have a 200MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera. However, improvements to the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s telephoto lens are possible.

The Ultra has had two 10MP cameras with 3x and 10x zoom for several years. According to Ice Universe, the 3x zoom camera will most likely remain at 10MP. However, with a substantially higher 50MP sensor resolution, the maximum zoom could dip to 5x this time. While this may appear to be a downgrade, it isn’t because of the higher resolution.

Samsung S24 price

Prices for Samsung’s Galaxy cellphones have been relatively steady in recent years, with the entry-level S23 model beginning at $800 in the United States, the S23 Plus model beginning at $1,000, and the S23 Ultra model beginning at roughly $1,200.

We haven’t heard anything regarding the Galaxy S24 price yet. For the time being, it’s probably safe to expect that the costs will be comparable to earlier versions. Of course, Samsung and carriers have trade-in discounts and financing options, which can help to reduce prices.

Conclusion

Samsung has had a busy year, releasing the Galaxy S23 series in February 2023 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 this summer. The next Galaxy S24 devices are slated to appear in early 2024, with a January 17, 2024 release date. According to rumors, the S24 series’ design would be altered, featuring flat screens and the thinnest bezels. For the first time, the S24 Ultra is expected to sport a titanium frame, potentially lowering its weight by up to 10%.
